According to the stratigic development plan of strengthening the construction of basic disciplines and emerging interdisciplinary disciplines, the School of Physical Science and Engineering, BJTU was newly found on March 3, 2022 based on the departments and resources of former School of Science,BJTU and School of Civil Engineering, BJTU. The new school consists of 4 departments and institutes, including Department of Physics, Institute of Optoelectronic Technology, Department of Mechanics, Department of Materials, and College of Life Sciences and Bio-engineering.

For undergraduate education, the programs include Optical Information Science and Technology, Nanomaterials and Technology, Applied Physics, and Engineering Mechanics. Every year, the School will embrace about 210 students coming to the campus.

For graduate education, School of Physical Science and Engineering currently has 3 doctoral programs in the level of the first discipline: Physics, Optical Engineering, and Engineering Mechanics. Plus, there are 5 masters’ degree programs in the first level discipline: Physics, Optical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Biology,  and Material Science. Currently, 308 master students and 166 Ph.D. students now are studying and researching in School of Physical Science and Engineering.

In terms of our staff, there are 170 in total. 136 of them are faculty members; among them, 4 are academicians of China Academy of Science and China Academy of Engineering, 57 professors, and 68 associate professors and senior engineers. Many of them are PIs of various national scientific and research programs, which are financially supported by Central Government.

School of Physical Science and Engineering will always put great value on international exchange and cooperation. 55.2% of the faculty members have oversea experience longer than half a year. Our collaborative education partners are from around the world, such as University of Birmingham, University of Waterloo, Ghent University and so on. Notably, the joint education program in Nanomaterials and Technology by BJTU and University of Waterloo (UW) was approved to admit 60 students through Gaokao every year since 2013, which was a milestone for education internationalization of both BJTU and UW.
